Tips to ace your WBCS Prelims 2018

Know your syllabus

Most aspirants will join a coaching institute and will get a comprehensive list of books. But there are those who plan to study on their own. We recommend that you get in touch with a reliable source and get a complete list of books. A local library subscription always helps. Once you get hold of the exact WBCS syllabus and books you are all set.

Manage your time

Regardless of whether you plan to brave the exam on your own or are joining a preparatory class, you will have to manage your time. Draw out a time table and stick to it. Plan your study schedule and ensure that you don’t deviate even for a minute.

Buy the right books

Buying the essential books always helps. You can always get extra notes and reference books that help you understand the chapters for each topic better. Before you begin with graduate level studies make sure you get all the CBSE and ICSE books for science, social studies, mathematics and English from classes VI to XII. Reading these will help you create the right base on which to build upon.

Always make short notes while studying

Each chapter for each subject should be given equal importance. Make short note simultaneously so you can refer to them at a later stage. This also helps in revision in the long run.

Complete your syllabus in time

Finish your syllabus for each subject on time. That way you will have ample time for further study and revision.

Constant revision

There is absolutely no substitute for continual revision.

Solve as many sample test papers as you possibly can

The one thing that helps is solving previous years’ papers. Make sure you constantly appear for mock tests. That way you’ll be able to keep track of your progress.

WBCS- exams for civil service aspirants in West Bengal

The civil services examination is one of the most important examinations which are conducted in India. Large numbers of students enroll themselves and appear for exams every year in hopes of becoming the civil servants.

In West Bengal, the WBCS are held which are more commonly known as the WBCS executive exams. The students appearing in these serve as civil servants but only in the state of west Bengal. The exams are arranged by states’ Public service commission so that every student that desires to serve as government servant can give these exams and crack them as well.

Such competitive examinations are arranged in three phases which are:

Every year, students can appear in these three phases for the WBCS. There are four groups as well which can be chosen according to merit of the scored number and the students choice as well. Students who pass the exams are allowed to give the next level and when the crack all the three levels they get appointed for serving as the civil servants in the state.

Highest position which a WBCS officer attains is the departmental secretary. Other posts include deputy magistrate, deputy collector, block development officer. Also, at later level of career, these officers under the WBCS can become the all India services officers.

Not just this, the state of West Bengal also reserves three posts of district magistrates for the students who become officers under the WBCS (Exe). It’s essential that students who appear in the exams are well versed with Bengali language and are able to read, write and also speak the language.

Whne the students are able to crack all three stages, they are appointed for the inspection of great health and after all things are satisfactory, they are appointed by authority as the WBCS (Exe) officer to serve the state.

Optional Papers WBCS 2018

One cannot ignore the optional papers while preparing for the West Bengal Civil Services (WBCS). There are several factors you need to keep in mind when choosing optional papers for WBCS 2018.

The primary concern when picking optional subjects is to get more marks so you qualify the exams. Most people prefer high scoring subjects. What we suggest is you choose subjects that you have a base in; can prepare for and can get marks easily. It is not advisable to take up a paper based on recommendations made by others. You should choose subjects that you have interest in.

Availability of study material is also another major concern. In more cases than one candidates go for subjects that supposedly help score higher. This is debatable but at the same time you must go through the preset exam pattern before deciding. Fact of the matter is mediocrity does not work when you are planning to crack these exams. Make sure you find out about available material and WBCSbook list before deciding. That way you won’t get stuck due to unavailability of books and study material.

Some candidates decide to go for subjects they are familiar with. But familiarity with certain concepts does not mean you’ll develop an interest later on. You must choose carefully. Eventually it is your capacity to read, learn and absorb data, facts and figures that’ll stand you in good stead.

Trivial as it may sound choose optional subjects that you feel you’ll be able to prepare well within the stipulated time period. It is important to go through previous years question papers and understand the pattern. Pick a combination so that you get enough time to revisit the syllabus before each paper.
Though it is good to prepare on your own, there is nothing like an ability to focus and concentrate; you must choose a good WBCS coaching guide. So what are you waiting for, join a coaching class today!

Govt. of West Bengal raises Age limit for appearing for State Civil Service Exams

For aspirants who haven’t been able to appear for West Bengal state civil service exams there is fresh opportunity now. In January 2017 the government of West Bengal issued a fresh decree whereby the upper age limit for the general category has been increased for Group A and B Category officials. Earlier on the upper age limit for appearing for these exams was 32 years. From now on those of the age of 36 years can make an application. The state is scheduled to release a notification to the effect shortly. So we’ll come to know about the rules in detail, including the relaxation limit for those who belong to the SC/ST and OBCs.In fact the age limit for C and D category jobs, the age limit has apparently been increased to 40. This move will also give candidate more time to prepare for public service examinations.

WBCS age increase limit will afford a significant change to aspirants and the government agencies. This will also bring down the state governments dependency on the Central government for filling up posts lying vacant in various ministries.

The decision to increase the age limit in a way is historic and will create opportunities for working professionals to make an attempt. In most cases aspirants from financially weaker backgrounds have to begin working with the private sector and cannot afford to invest time in study for preparation. This will definitely give another opportunity to the deserving and qualified.

According to statements released by the Chief Minister of Bengal, a lot of good information technology talent is moving towards the private sector. Naturally they are well paid and have better growth opportunities. The idea is to channelize this talent pool into government services. This will not only increase the quality of staff but will add to the initiative for better and efficient governance in future.
